Couriers serve businesses of all sizes and are a vital part of he global economy by transporting goods and documents with billions annually and are a billion dollar industry themselves.
Countries around the world spent billions of dollars every year to maintain the vital link between businesses and consumers.
The industry boomed during COVID-19 with so many working remotely from home , the demand for couriers to deliver packages skyrocketed.
They also played a important role in WWII. They were extensively used and the famous code breakers of Bletchley Park used a courier service to deliver the decoded messages to London quick and safe.
There was no actual couriers in the US until the mid 1800’s. The first package delivery company was established in 1852 by Wells Fargo, but by todays standards it was not considered reliable or timely.
The courier industry was then transformed by THE PONY EXPRESS. This was a courier service operating in the US at the start of the Civil War and the California Gold Rush id credited for changing the speed and efficiency of the mail delivery in America. Courier’s were able to transport packages from the east coast to the west coast in just 10 days and rode on horseback rather then using stagecoaches.
Working for the pony express was no joke and the actual employment ad was :
